26th Asia Pacific Regional Jamboree

The 26th APR Scout Jamboree was held in Mt. Makiling,Laguna,Philippines, hosted by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) with close to 14,000 participants from 25 countries namely, Australia,Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Scouts of China, Hong Kong, India,Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, NewZealand, Pakistan, Philippines Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand andMacau, joined by Scouts from Canada, Sweden, United Kingdom, USA and Vietnam.

JAMBOREE THEME: “Scouts create a better world” Epitomize thespirit of Solidarity, Harmony, Altruism, Respect and Equality (SHARE)among Scouts of APR despite variances in race, creed and beliefs; thatif all people in this world live the Scouting way, together we cancreate a better world.

The BSP Bohol Council participated in the activity and showcased all the Boholano talents not only to the other filipinos but also to the other particpants from other countries. The Bohol contigent was able to reach the final level of the Songs and Yells competition competing with other councils. Boholano scouts had shown the real essence of scouting during the week-long activity and show true friendship and camarederie to other scouts. Yours truly was able to participate in the said activity for free sponsored by my council.

As the activity begins so as the learning and the adventure of Scouts.

As a start up, Boholano Scouts join the morning exercises with a blend of aerobics and arnis at the sub camp level. For a more physical activity, extreme challenge is a module where Scouts use their mental alertness to pursue the challenge in style. Here, mental sharpness proper physical conditioning is a must. Swimming pool is at hand for Scouts who love water-based activities where they learn the basic rudiments as well as safety of having fun in the waters.

In high energy and in sweat, young people enjoyed the fun of wallclimbing and rappelling. Another favourite is the survivors area where Scouts learn to survive using indigenous materials in cooking, firelighting, signalling, nature clean-up, among others.

Down the mountain at the Global Development Village (GDV) Scouts reflect on issues and challenges facing the world. Here at the village,Scouts increase their awareness of what they can contribute in theirown way on the following themes: health, environment, peace and humanrights.

A throng of Scouts also flocked the Asia Pacific Regional display -APR Village, where information on regional scouting programmes and activities are available. Hands-on crafts making, knowledge of Scouting in other countries, are also offerred. Side by side is the social accountability module where the young people will get a hands-on knowledge of various aspects of social accountability which are displayed in very creative cartoon form, which are both attractive and easy to understand. Animated photo-taking opportunity gives is another special feature of the booth.

Information on International Award Association Programme, WorldScout Jamboree in Sweden, and the next APR Scout Jamboree in Korea is also at hand.

With many dynamic and innovative activities surrounding Scouts, Mt.Makiling becomes a home of adventure and learning giving the Scouts a perspective that, when people understand and accept each other, the world that is so huge is indeed a small village.
